Morning all,

I just wanted some advice.

A few weeks ago I had some work done on my house and one of the builders was really friendly and flirty.

Towards the end of the work he asked me out and took my number, we planned to meet up on Saturday and he even told my mum he was taking me out. He called me from a 'friends phone' regarding work the next day. But I've not heard from him since and of course Saturday came and went with no sign of him and no call or text.

I'm angry and upset at this and to make things worse he's still working in the area so I'll basically see him every day!!

Probably his wife found out.
That's some men for you, most have us have experienced it. I'd chalk it up and laugh it off - oh and if he comes up with some excuse like he lost your number, his dog was ill or he had to work don't believe him. Give it a miss.

He's single, I know that for sure.
If as you say he is still working in the area try & make a point of catching him with his mates & say in front of them all ''sorry I couldn't make it on Saturday I had better things to do''
That's just some people for you. Sorry you've had such an experience. In the end you have to move on, take some comfort from the fact that anyone who stands you up is not worth missing anyway.

I never listen to that advice either, sadly.

I know Prudie. Just wish that I didn't feel like such a fool!!
Using a friends phone just made me think he was hiding his contact with you from somebody.
I agree grasscarp, that bit sets alarms ringing straightaway. Don't be upset Charlie, men can be very thoughtless.

Think I'm more upset because I feel like a complete prat! I've been single for 4 years and my mum keeps going on that I need to find someone and he told her that he was taking me out so my mum obviously told my family and I have all of them asking when we're going etc!!

As I said he's working in my area for the next few months so I'll see him every day but I'm just going to hold my head up high and show him that he really does not matter
Loads of people can be thoughtless. No need to drag gender into it.
Sorry...can't see the big deal and cannot understand the complexity of the replies.
When you partake on the mating game, then you take the successes with the failures........quite simple really........nothing complicated.
That's awful for you Charlie. Bad enough for you without whole family knowing. There are good men out there and I hope your luck changes soon.

Sqad I just don't understand that's all!

For the three weeks he was working on my property he was very flirty and seemed quite into me even giving me lifts to work everyday and then when we arrange to meet I hear nothing!! I just don't get it!
Jim this is a female poster getting responses from other uderstanding females. If you want to make it something heavy move it into news.
He changed his mind.
Woman do and so do men.
Flirting is one thing, but starting a relationship is something else..quite different
Don't take it to heart.

Get flirting with someone else.
And it is men who usually ask women out. How often do you hear of a woman asking a man out then not turning up?
Well maybe I read too much into what you were saying. Wouldn't be the first time I've done that. Either way, I've been stood up by women, or at least they've not showed up for a date and kept cancelling, too. So... we all have our bad luck.

In terms of OP, that experience still seems important. People can lie, or be dishonest, or invent excuses, or say nothing and just disappear after building your hopes up. In the end, you have to move on. And this is true independent of who's doing the lying or who stood up whom. The end result is the same... you end up feeling rotten.
