Compromise all round here, couple need time apart and this is a good thing and always comes down to a small word called 'trust'. If you go away with the lads, does your wife get to have girly weekends away too ? Having said that there must be reason why she is not happy about you going away?
I find some of the comments on here strange. On the one hand you have men who want to get away from their wife for a break and then you have women who say they think it's great when their husband goes away. Why do these people stay married? My wife and I love each other's company and have no desire to spend even one night away from each other. Maybe we are lucky.
I adore my partner...but I wouldn't mind if he wanted to go away with pals and he wouldn't stop me... just an odd couple of nights once in a blue moon... its just so nice when you meet up again...
I have gone away with mates every year for a long weekend since my early 20s - I'm now in my early 40s.

There has never been an ulterior motive - it is simply the same bunch of mates having a laugh and some beers in a European city for a couple of days: nobody, to my knowledge, has ever gone with, or tried to go with, another woman.

The first Mrs flop knew about these trips befire we got married, but it was only a year into the marriage when she started getting the hump about them. This bred resentment and was one of the reasons why I eventually binned her off.

The second Mrs flop has always sent me on my merry way with complete approval and trust, and likewise when she goes away she does so with my complete approval and trust - plus we make a point of going away for a long weekend somewhere each year without the kids.

The point I'm trying to make, in a longwinded way, is that this sort of unreasonable behaviour breeds resentment.
I couldn't imagine my OH ever making a fuss. I always run my plans past him. I think I would be totally stunned if he ever said no.
I have been away on my own or with friends loads of times, including a month in Australia and quite a few trips to Spain. Mr LL stays at home and looks after the dogs. I like to gad about more than he does, but he has never complained. He has never been one for going out with 'mates' though - more of a loner!!

I have made him sound like a henpecked whimp, ha, ha. He is far from it - just never stops me doing anything.
I wouldn't be expect to be 'asked' or me to 'ask'. It would just be talked about obviously to make sure that noone was inconvenienced or had any other plans. I haven't asked anybody if I can do anything since I was a child.
