Nox BUT the Roman Catholic Church can say "This Church does not believe in same gender marriage therefore it will not allow same gender marriage in a Roman Catholic church, which as i see it, is a "club rules" situation.
Of course it can.
But if a couple want to get married.....they will be able to, they'll just have to choose a venue which is more progressive.
Most religions are deemed to increase their numbers. Gay partnerships dont fit that mould.
That was exactly my point actually Woofgang, I think you misunderstood slightly what i was getting at- a religion can make it's own rules for those who choose to be members but it has NO RIGHT to make a widersweeping comment on what other people can do, never mind about be involved in any governmental decisionmaking process on the subject more generally.

even marriage can be dubious, see Mick Jagger here :

What's wrong with the civil partnership...............is this somehow considered 'second-class'?
Frankly, yes.

I don't see why I can only be 'civil-partnered' whilst everyone else can be 'married'.
I think that anyone who has an honest belief in god should be able to stand up and make their promises in front of god and witnesses.
humbersloop, //Naomi, Marriage is considered part of some peoples religion, the same as christenings and burials, so if people are against "gay marriage" that is their belief and this should also be respected.//

Why should it be respected? What right does religion have to say that people aren't free to marry whomsoever they choose? People can believe as they want to believe, but that doesn't give them the right to demand that others respect those beliefs, and neither does it give them the right to impose those beliefs on others. Religion does not hold a monopoly on marriage - thank goodness!
But jack my understanding is that heterosexual couples can't be civil partnered................
Hopefully that can be addressed, too.
a civil 'marriage' in a UK Registry Office is non religious, where hetrosexual athiests/divorcees/mixed faiths can be legally married.
'I don't see why I can only be 'civil-partnered' whilst everyone else can be 'married'.'

Because marriage is between man and woman perhaps?
many hetrosexual couples dont get married.
So homosexuals want marriage as civil partnership is considered second class.
Heterosexual couples who can be married want a civil partnership...............
Contrary bunch, aren't we all...? :o)
This country has already pandered enough to gays by allowing them to be civil with their partners

They should accept that, remove the chips from their shoulders and belt up now
