on the night my chap broke up with me (about the 5th time, sucker i know :( he walked out of my house and locked me in and took my house keys. I'd like my keys back really, i can't afford to have my locks changed, i don't fear him but i don't like the idea of anyone having my keys. I gave him all his belongings back that night, but find it strange that he kept hold of my keys (he knew he had them because he locked me in!)i'm not contacting him, of that much i'm sure, i don't want him thinking i'm looking for a reason to contact him, still it bugs me why he would do such a thing. Its not hard for him to post them if he doesnt want to see me. should i just forget it?
I agree - change the lock. You never know, even if he returns the keys he might have copies of them. (don't mean to worry you but he did take the keys so who knows)
Changing the lock would be best, if you really can't afford that then fit a chain or security bar so you can at least have the extra security when you're home. Obviously that won't stop getting access whne you are out if he wants to.
If you really cant afford to change the locks for now, can you lock the front door from the inside, ie bolt the door and use the back door instead? Not many men, in my experience, have a back door key
i wouldn;t trust that he hasn;t made copies. i would try the bolting the front door as suggested until you can afford to get the locks changed. I had to check mind done recently cost £50 for the lock and labour was free
In fairness I don't think it can be that expensive to change locks on 2 external doors, front and back. Worth it for the peace of mind I'd have thought.
Depending on the lock, some merely need a new barrel to replace the existing one.
