I sometimes get little thin dark coloured lines appearing on a finger nail - in the same direction as the nail grows. What are they?

Hi phl666, It may be something called 'Melanonychia' which are vertical pigmented bands known commonly as 'nail moles' these form from the nail matrix(just under the skin before the nail starts, where your nail forms basically)You may need to see your GP for some advise if there is any sudden change in your nail plate that you notice though it may be better to get this checked out anyway hun. It could signify a malignant melanoma or lesion. Though dark streaks may be a normal occurence in dark-skinned individuals and are fairly common. Hope this helps.
