No - i just basicially want to know if people on here have managable managers !

I am a manager for an Insurance company, and i dont think I am a *******! I think my staff feel they can approach me and talk to me! Even if i am 5 years younger than any of them......

My dad is my boss here, so that works and it doesn't, but the manager I had before here was brilliant. She was firm, but fair, as the saying goes.

A lot of people end up as managers because they have no useful talent but are good bootlickers or have manager mates. They generally turn out to be the Barstwewards to which you refer, They're not all bad. I've been lucky enough to always avoid being made a manager, sometimes by leaving the job! but I have also been lucky enough to work with some of the best. I have on occasions interviewed companies where as soon as they open their mouths I can tell the "manager" is a complete a55hole, those companies are just turned down and do not get the Geezer on board!

I'm a manager. I'm a nice one - far too soft though, and don't exactly lead by example. But, I make sure the work is done & they respect me, but 'aint scared of me - so I'm happy, they're happy. We're all happy campers.

The problem in my Company, and I daresay this will ring true with a lot of other people here is that the Managers are good at what they do, they are good at the job BUT the Company is at fault because being good at the job doesn't not automatically mean the person is capable of managing people.
My Company's downfall is promoting staff to Managers (which is good) but failing to follow through with people management techniques / courses / etc.

Of course, you still get some people that think that being a manager equals being on a power trip and treating people like crap.

The problem is most managers end up promoted beyond their point of competance. Then they begin to panic and become the a55holes and tw*ts we all know and despise.
Recognising that fact I likle to think I have avoided the problem and always enjoyed excelent working relations with my staff. However I dont tolerate slackers and deal with them accordingly. This is only fair to the other members of the team but I guess these people would class be as a B*!%%d.

I manage staff and one of the tricks I find is to find that kind of staff who are a pleasure to manage and all works well.
If they are polite, hardworking, responsible etc... then it's unlikely to cause any problems as we're on the same wavelength.

I've worked for good 'uns and bad 'uns over the years, including a guy who could almost be the inspiration for David Brent, except David Brent was at least honest. There have been some barstewards, including the guy who treated me like brown stuff because my uncle was his boss.
I currently have two jobs and two managers, in different sections of the same department. My 'main' one is lovely - a bit scatty and inclined to assume that we can always read her mind, but very kind and very appreciative (she buys us cakes and biscuits on a regular basis). The boss in the other section - he's OK too. Annoying when he leaves everything 'til the last minute and we have to go like the clappers to get his reports in on time and in a world of his own half the time, but he hasn't a mean bone in his body.

my manager is far too nice, he is wrapped around everyones finger and doesnt 'manage' anything, poor sod! he gets a bit of a hard time.

do u not realise that managers have a tough time of it too,too meet demands etc..of course they get stressed a lot of the times and it shows, but at the end of the day we have to respect their authority and such.
