It's possible that a small bone may have scratched the inside of your gullet on the way down. This will cause a slight welling, which will feel like something is stuck. After a short time, the swelling subsides, the feeling goes.

That sounds like your symptoms, but it is surprising if it happens every time.

Have a word with your GP, and get it checked out.

maybe something is going up the channel from you throught to ur nose ? i used to get fish bones and peices of spagetting coming out of my nose but I had a hair lip and cleft pallet and this meant also that the flap over the entrance to this channel in the throat was missing, it was fixed with a skin graft operation and since (16 years) I only every got something going the wrong way once. talk to your doctor about it

thanx all for your posts, its something that has always happened after i eat fish since i was wee, it doesnt actually bother me as such, i just thought id ask if anyone gets the same feelin, and no zacsmaster i didnt hae it wi a poached egg lol i had it with some salad!!!!! thanx again peeps.
My mates hubby got a bond in his throat once and his mum who is from Barbados and eats loads of fish told him to each a lump of soft bread to clear it, it works, so just in case maybe just try eaching a lump of bread after each fish dish.
I've had another thought -

if this happens every time you eat fish, have you considered that you may have a slight allergy? This could cause mild swelling of the type you describe.

Have a word with your GP abou an allergy test - then you'll know for sure.

hey andy, how you doin. ive never thought o it like that but i suppose that could be a possability. i never get it when i eat tuna tho, its only wen i eat like mackerel, haddock or cod etc..... im ok wi salmon too, does that sound slightly wierd lol shall mention to the docs the next time im there ( which is hardly ever) so by the time that comes il hae forgot bout it lmao!!
Hi peb - I am well - as you can tell, as the song says.

I do think it's worth a mention to your GO - you may have an allergy simply to Mackrel, it sounds increasingly like ity, since other bony fish like salmon don;t seem to be affecting you.

Let me know the outcome - I'm curious now (so no change there!)
I have felt this from time to time once it seemed to last for a few days.I got talking to my brother (who is a doctor) and he told me if anyone comes to the hospital after swallowing a fish bone there told to drink a can of coke slowly. It's the phosphoric acid in the coke that dissolves the bone enough to swallow. not a great advert for coca cola espeically when I also heard it's great for cleaning toilets too ! This does'nt quite answer your question but I hope you found it intresting.
