i was thinking the other day...does "luck" actually exist? is there such a thing? what do you think?

this was my train of thought! people always say, "god, that was lucky!" or "wow, if id have done that (a different action) i wouldnt have been so lucky!"

luck, appears to me, to be something that can only exist retrospectivley. it would be impossible to say "today, i will be lucky", as this now changes from luck, to probability.

Also, ive noticed, luck, is not the same for everyone. in a single senario, two different people experiencing the same event, may look at what happened with a different view. (say for example a car crash) Therefore one person who wanted to live would say "wow, i was lucky that chunk of metal was only millimeters from my brain!" whereas a person with a death wish would say "oh unlucky, i wanted to die, but the paramedics saved me!"

so...does luck exist? is there such a thing as a "lucky" person? or can luck really only exist in the past tense? im curious to see what other people think about this...

I would think, danny, that 'luck' is always a retrospective happening; and, as we all know, retrospectology is the most exact science in the world. I still think that you should start writing your book..............Did you look up John Saul yet?

hiya stewey! hows it going?

lol :P one day...maybe one day ill write a book. to be honest, id much prefer to write a film. id enjoy that so much more, although even i know film scripts can be subject to drastic changes as they go through the whole process. (DVD extras taught me that! lol :P) but id still enjoy it more! anways, yeah i did look up on this John Saul dude, an American Thriller writter huh? i wonder which genre i would get writting into?

I watched a cool film called the quiet earth, i was thinking of getting the book for the that, cant remember who they said wrote it, but thats the sort of thing id love to write about. Im not so interested in the science of things, more the social, psychological side. Such as Children of Men. The Politics doesnt interest me as much as the effects on everyones day to day life.

hey, ya never know, maybe ill get "lucky" one day! lol :P
I think that you are already quite aware of the genre that you will be opting for: not quite Harlequin Romances; perhaps Stephen Koontz?
Question Author
if im honest ive never read any of stephen koontz books, so i wouldnt know! lol :P i dont tend to read at all really. i prefere visual stimuli if im honest. hence id rather write a film! id be better at been able to write a conversation in a script rather than in a novel. i was never really any good at english in school though...
