I have Epilepsy, and on Epilim 300mg 2x daily. I've put on 4st in weight since my GP put me back on medication 2 yrs ago (I came off meds while I had my girls) My neurologist wont change my medication although he admitted its the cause of my weight gain. I dont eat unhealthy (i have animal fat intolerance) so I dont eat red meat, greasy foods, take-aways etc, I eat a lot of fresh food. I do exercise everyday (Have no choice - I have a 4yr old whose exercise mad thx to cbeebies lol) Has anyone got any ideas of how to get my weight back down?? I was 10st 4oz (i was losing pregnancy weight) and after taking epilim again for 2 yrs i currently weigh 14st 4oz please help!!!!

I suggest you consult another Doctor, I know that's not so easy as I'm sure you are under a doctor that knows all about your epilepsy and you may not want to see another Doctor. Perhaps you should stress the situation a bit more.
Even explain that you are getting so stressed about your weight that it is triggering or are worried that it may trigger seizures. I have an epileptic daughter (also who doesnt eat meat) and lost a brother through epilepsy so I know that you don't need this extra worry. I hope you get it sorted very soon. Good Luck for the future.
I agree with Ratter that you should consult a second doctor. You may also want to visit the following site and maybe contact them for advice: http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/info/drug_treatment .html#changing

Sorry to hear about your brother Ratters xxx

Thanks both, i'll do that first thing Monday morning xxx
I took Epilim for seventeen years in total, and I have ended up with liver disease and pcos as a result of taking it. Also my weight was 7stone when I started taking Epilim about a year before i withdrew from Epilim I weighed 15 stone.I am a now 11 stone since stopping Epilim but need to lose 2 stone more. The doctors have admitted Epilim is the cause of these problems and I would strongely advise you to go to your gp and they or your neurologist will give you a gradual withdrawal programme and hopefully you wil be advised to take another and hopefully safer AED.
i have epilepsy and i am a vegetarian i also know that epilim can cause weight gain so if yr not happy with yr weight and it sounds like u eat very healthy then ask if u can see a different doctor and get their opinion
