Its something like 10 grand just to get them in the air isn't it? Cheaper if he had drowned, and that sounds harsh but a protion of my Council tax goes to lancashire County Council for the Police services.
Goodness, what is the World coming to?!?! To use something that should be used to save Lives to blow a Criminal into Shore is in itself Criminal!!!!
Or a marksman on top of the Tower could have fired ahead of him to scare him back to shore, that would have only cost a few grand.
i bet the ''DOPE'' got wet. boom boom

Would of let him drown if it would of been up to me
it would seem that the RAF helicopter was on a training flight and it was "passing the area" so able to assist the police. It then went on to rescue another man in difficulty in the local area. So good value for a training flight.
So was it a Seaking then? Wonderyears was it Yellow?

The aircraft involved was a Sea King MK3A of 22 Squadron (C flight), it is based at RAF Valley on Anglesey. Though I would say it is more suited to search and rescue rather than police work but hey!
My hubby used to be on Seakings alot from Valley, he was at RAF ST Athan in the Mountain Rescue.

i supose the coppers got there man and like you say stevie if they were on a call out anyway its not so bad and if somthing had happened to him the family would have claimed thousands of the police cos it would have ended up sombody elses fault as thease things often do
i know of a woman who was given an ambulance (at a hefty cost) to go to her daughters because she was too fat to get in a taxi...the GP had to action this and the staff were raging but had to go with it because he said so!! disgraceful i thought!
Shame he didn't get closer to the chopper blades i.m.o.
