Back in my home country, when I was about 10 there was a religious riot going on on the road beneath our holiday home which sits on top of a hill. While we were inside the house, one of the sects climbed the hill and started throwing stones at the other group which was still on the road. The people down there then began targetting our house and stones crashed in through our windows. The police soon came and started tear-gassing the place to disperse the crowds. We were trapped inside, choking because of the gas, with pieces of wet cloth held up to our mouths and noses, while hundreds of people shouted and attacked each other right outside our house. It might have even been one of the most enlightening experiences of my life as all our servants went outside and stood guard at the doors and windows of the house, fighting off people who were trying to get in. I have the utmost respect for them now.
