Hi, I have what I think must be lumbago - lower back pain which has radiated into my bottom and the tops of my legs. I'll be seeing the doctor about it today as - since the first twinges - I've had this for over 2 weeks now, and it's very painful.

My question is, has anyone had this for this amount of time, and how long did it last overall? Also, was there anything you did to alleviate the pain? When it was just my back I wore heat pads, but it's difficult to do this where the pain is now.

Thanks!

Heat pads and nurofen, sounds like sciatica, it can last as long, persist with the pads if poss as pain is referred

Im with CLOWNTICKLE but maybe a hot waterbottle might be easier than a heat pad. Definitely tablets with Ibuprofen will ease it a bit and painkillers as well. Hope it gets better soon for you

Sounds like sciatica to me too ~ I have had it on & off for the last 20 years :o(

When it first started I suffered quite a lot..nowadays I get a twinge every now & then which requires a nice lie down and a dosage of nurofen & hot water bottle on my bottom.

The only thing my doctor will prescribe is a heat pad & ibuprofen..feel for you though ~ it can be nasty!

Thanks all, that's really helpful. This is the first day I've taken off work with it, so I'll take full advantage and get myself a nice hot water bottle as you suggest. I've already dosed myself up on Nurofen :)

Pippa, I don't envy you having to go through this more than once!

Thanks again everyone, I appreciate it, x.

i had something similar this morning, i had got up to go to work, had a shower, just about to get dressed, when i got this horrible ache in my lower back, i can tell you its a lot worse than sciatica. i could tie my laces, i took an ibrofen, and the pain subsided an hour later, still feeling delicate now, 9 hours later.
