This may not be the 'appropriate' section. However, I was having a perfectly nice day when I see a reply to a question I posted in Animal section about my cat liking the taste of earwax (because she chews my earplugs). Somebody, in their wisdom, decides to tell me I am 'not normal'. My question is, why be so downright nasty to people? Have you ever posted a remark to someone just to be offensive? What do you think peoples motives are?

Im my opinion my question was perfectly normal, and judging by the responses I got Im not totally barking!!

oh ok that explains the random idiocy then!

Earplugs are a life saver for me when Im working nights. Unfortunately they dont last long once my cat gets a hold of them :(

lol... all sorts spring to mind.... wearing earplugs at work???

i do think the offensive posters are teens and under, all hormones and jostling for position in life, the alternative is they're downright ill-educated, put both together.....

but....on a bright note..... everythings a learning curve....

hi, yes i think from time to time, on here you do get a minority of people that cant wait to jump on peoples questions, and give a nasty or sarcy answer.

You should try as hard as need be not to be offended by anyone on here. Firstly there are nasty people in the world whether it be in your class at school, on a bus or in an internet Q&A site. They really have nothing better to do, so they set out to be spiteful in the hope that they get some reaction (like this Q for example). Secondly, they are faceless and nameless existing in the ethereal (cyberspace if you prefer), and nothing they say can really harm you. Ignore them - they do go away eventually.

Unless that poster A Bed gets in there 1st of course.

lol beryllium I dont actually wear them at work!!!
it is a bit of an odd phenomenon...but there are people on here who post such things just to be "funny". However, what amuses one person doesn't always amuse others. And some quirky responses don't translate at all well in print (I've been guilty of that myself), so you can't always tell what was meant by a response, be it humourous or a bit more edgy. Some folk on here don't give two hoots about peer approval, or being liked (and indeed, why should they?), but are just here for their own amusement, and will answer how they see fit. Nothing wrong with that at all, but some responses can seem nippy and out of proportion.
morning alijangra, i think your normal and your question made me curious so i consulted my cat last night and she just gave me the look and then licked my toes i don't think she understood......

ok kick, point taken but in this instance the person concerned was just being a w@nker. I dont like being called abnormal for asking a question!! And for anyone else who thinks my cat/earwax Q is daft, try it for yourself lol!!

rofl!!! oh heavens alijangra, there's me picturing you with earplugs in at work....

"How was your night at work dear?"

"Peaceful" you reply.....

Oh ali, don't get me wrong, some folk are just juankers, I know that and I wasn't trying to defend anyoen who was nippy with you. I was just saying that on occasions, things are just misunderstood. But you're right, there are folk on here who are so nasty at times that you wonder how miserable and unhappy they must be in real life. Don't let the barstewards get you down. p.s. my cat likes to try to grab cotton buds out of the wastepaper basket if they've been used to clean ears. what is it with cats and ear wax?? lol.
if it's the user beryllium mentions, he's young and often helpful but sometimes misjudges his humour. Personally, I don't know if it's normal to produce ear wax that cats like, but <joke alert> perhaps you should try marketing it to Whiskas? Anyway, as Octavius says, the world's full of people who are rude by design and others who are rude when they don't really mean to be, and it seems worse on websites where no allowance is made for tone of voice or smiling while you say something. Just remind yourself: he doesn't actually know you so he's not really talking to you.
