(21:13 on Sun 18/Dec/05) You would lose a load of weight....water weight and weight on the scales. However, you would lose a lot of lean tissue also, have no energy and would probably feel weak and dizzy.

(22:34 on Sun 18/Dec/05) you wouldn't lose much fat. You're body would think it was being starved and go into save mode, storing and holding on to any fat in the body

(22:43 on Sun 18/Dec/05) I regularly fast, usual for three or four days. Recently I underwent a seven-day fast on water only. Tap water or still water is best. Mineral water can make your kidneys ache. After seven days I started to get the shakes a little, my legs felt wobbly and I thought that I might faint. I was still working full time doing night shifts, so I thought it prudent to stop the fast in case I passed out at work. (I work alone). Weight loss was negligible, mostly water that you regain quickly. Resultsfeeling of well being, detoxifying system successful. Coming off the fast MUST be done slowly, eat easily digested food in small portions. Worth doing? debatable. Gains? None spring to mind. Hard? Yes.

(10:14 on Mon 19/Dec/05) Just skipping one meal is bad for you, so not eating at all for a week is a very bad idea. Like crisgal says, your body would go into starvation mode, so when you do eat again your body would store extra fat, as it is preparing itself for the possibility of not getting more food for a while, and surviving on what fat you have. When david small describes getting the shakes, his blood sugar levels where probably dangerously low. If this happens there is a possibility of you fainting, or worst case scenario falling into a coma. If we were meant to skip meals we would probably have a big hump on our backs like camels!

Your body tells you its hungry for a reason. If your car was out of petrol youd fill it up same goes for your body food is your fuel, you cant expect to function properly without it.

I fast because I feel good after two days going without food. I think it detoxifies the system. I am well aware that it does not suit everyone. I also like the control factor, where I dictate to my body, not obeying its whims. It may sound a little eccentric, but thats me. As regard religious reasons, I am not religious though I do find an heightened awareness while fasting, a definite aid to meditation.

(21:50 on Wed 31/May/06) one, fasting is dangerous and pointless. two, any benefits are purely psychological. three, for what reason do you want to fast.

(13:30 on Thu 29/Jan/09) Hi all,
Good for you!
You must start very light....such as diluted fruit juices....fresh squeezed is best. I am coming off a 10 day cleanse/fast called the Master Cleanse. Boy do I feel good...a little fuzzy-headed sometimes, but that is to be expected. You need to eat light for 3 days and then not put anything heavy into your system like meats until another week. If you do, you will undo what you have started. Your body is still detoxing.

Whoever thinks that fasting isn't good for you needs to read Paul Bragg's book on fasting...you will quickly change your mind. Fasting is an age old cure for most anything that ails the human body...side note: If one is ill then he needs to fast under the direction of someone who is experienced with such things. A Naturopath or such.
There is another book by John Thomas Called "Young Again" It is packed full of information on how to get well and he believes one can reverse the sigs of aging by taking his protocol. I do know that when I was ill, I called him and he walked me thru some major stuff and I am now so much better. My body was full of toxins, synthetic drugs and such. I had an accident when small and was fed way too many drugs as a child. It caught up with me eventually and I began having all kinds of problems. The detox works wonders.

More power to ya.....keep it up and you will out live all yoru friends.

I didn't read your response to the question as to why you were fasting.
Please call John Thomas and hel'l tell you what to do. You probably don't have ADD but a chemical imbalance due to a lack of minerals or vitamins in your diet. ...or you are either alergic to a food or such. The medical system uses drugs way to much to treat what ails humans and I believe it is killing us all....I'd get off the medicine as quick as possible and either look for a local naturopath or do some seaches on the enternet for answers to your anxiety or lack of concentration. I thought for years I had ADD and just had a defeciency of good oils. Our brain needs good oils to function properly.
He will really help you whether you get on his protocol or not. Take care and be encouraged....you really probably only have a mineral or oil defeciency.

Take care and get well!
John's number is 800-659-1822
