For Sqad but also anyone else with experience of this! My right ankle feels "out of joint" most of the time. If I stand on it, it really hurts and feels "wrong". If I flick my ankle in sharp circular motion, it will do a series of clicks and I feel things moving inside. If I'm lucky, I can then stand on it, and bear weight. Often I will get up and not be able to walk for days. Other times I am okay. I have hypermobile syndrome, and arthritis in the joint. A surgeon has told me I could have a ligament reconstruction on my ankle as it is unstable. I am worried about how I would deal with not weight bearing for 2 weeks, living alone. Has anyone experience of this ankle problem, and what did you do to resolve it?!

What you are describing in your ankle, is very common with HS and eventually leads to wear and tear of the joint.
I do not know if this is the case with you and only X-Rays and perhaps keyhole surgical examination will be needed to identify the problem. It may be that you have gone through these procedures as it has been diagnosed as a ligamentous problem only managed by surgery.
I cannot comment on your post operative management, but clearly surgery will be needed at some time in the future.

Thanks Sqad! I had an arthroscopy on my other ankle 7 years ago- which was pretty debilitating at the time considering it was just an exploration. Tidied the joint up a bit, but I still have problems with it. The right one however is hopeless now. I'm wondering whether I'd be allowed to stay in hospital for the first 2 weeks, since I have nobody at home to help? I wouldn't be able to use crutches as I have hypermobile wrists, elbows and shoulders. I can't even open a jar without pain, let alone lift my body weight!
