My GP wants me to have my cholesterol checked next Tuesday at 12.20pm. He said it would be a fasting bloods but didn't say when I should stop eating and drinking. Also, would it be possible for me to lower my cholesterol before then?

rise from your fairy boudoir and dont have breakfast
black doffee or tea ( no milk ) or lemonade ( clear )
they dont matter so much

asking you to fast until midday is a bit of a long shot

take a mars bar to eat afterwards you will need it

lowering cholesterol BEFORE a test ?
are you craxy ? you shouldnt be chasing a good blood test result from basic principles......

Thanks PP. I don't have a problem with not eating but I always have a coffee when I rise from my fairy boudoir and I don't like it black. Will probably just stick to water if that's allowed. No need to take a Mars bar as there is a chippy nearby so I will pop in there after the test.
A light breakfast will suffice.
No.....nothing you can do to affect your Cholesterol test before next Tuesday.
I had mine done a few wks ago @11.50 am and I was surprised to find that I didn't feel hungry at all! I just had a few sips of water now and again.
Officially, water only 12 hours before test
My OH consumes those little pots of stuff like Yakult for a week before his test, it seems to keep his figures low. I'm not saying it's a good idea though so don't yell at me.

hc are you saying I would have to stop drinking water 12 hours before the test?

sqad, a light breakfast, like a soft boiled egg?
Barsel...yes.....poached egg on toast........as long as it is not a "Full English".;-)
You are allowed little sips of water.
According to this, Barsel:

Blood cholesterol tests (lipid profile)

You may be asked not to eat anything and only drink water for 9 to 12 hours before having blood cholesterol tests (lipid profile).

I don't wish to sound callous, but what is it that so onerous about not eating solids before 12:20pm?
Question Author
Khandro If you look at my post at 10:52 you will see I don't have a problem about eating until after the test but I cannot go without drinking water through the night and for the rest of the morning as I would get an incredibly dry mouth.
I see. Well there's no problem about drinking water, as much as you like.
