Ladies - this article has some graphic pictures. They explain why shaving your bikini line might not be a good idea. This is an extreme case - but it is a scary extreme case

Nasty, but it seems any cut could result in it. Thank goodness I keep my facial hair !

Looking at your avatar OG you rather suit your beard. :-)
I had to look didn't I. Shudder.
A Teacher who taught my Daughters almost died from the results of Necrotising fasciitis following a minor surgical procedure.

Quite dreadful.

A very helpful posts Susan .

Anne - helpful was probably an accidental thing. I thought that it was scary (terrifying how a bug can do all that damage) and eeky. I like eeky.

This is a bit like Toxic shock - you know that it exists and can kill but you know that the risk is low. But the odd reminder that it can happen won't do any harm

I think the URL will suffice for me (though why you'd shave a flesh-eating bug I don't know)
In truth this is not really a warning about shaving, more to be very aware of any wound and monitor and report anything untoward very quickly.

I think that we tend to forget that these little bugs are around and adapting. We can't see them so we get complacent and then we usually get away with no problem. However the risk is still there.

To stick to the official guidelines we should wash our hands a trillion times a day - touch a cat, wash your hands, touch the other cat, wash your hands. I admit to being a rebel in such things.

I am away to see if I can get to sleep now after my failed attempt earlier.

Night folks

thats frightening. I nicked a neck with new clippers yday. If the customer complains I might try blaming his germs and hope he doesnt carry a samurai sword
I've been shaving my bikini line (and armpits) since the age of 14 or younger. I've had the odd rash here and there, but no real problems
Let's be clear here without denigrating the object of the OPer.
We are talking mainly about MRSA but also other bacteria known as "flesh eating.".......they live on the skin and only 2 out of 100 folks harbour them. Even then, if surgery is required, infection may not ensue and even if it did, it is rare that it is fatal
Necrotising fasciits is also extremely rare.
So ladies.......up to you......but i would continue "shaving."
I can't believe I missed this thread...

I never shave, but that's down to having very sensitive skin.

Why the hell don't more people wax?
Dear god!! That developed after just two days?? What could she possibly have done differently ? ( apart from nicking the skin with the razor). Is there any other early warning sign she could have noticed?
