Strange Spot Produces Something Weird.

I had an appendectomy 32 years ago. The last few weeks I had a strange spot appear on my scar. It did not go away and was red and sore to touch. It came up like a wart but when I got out of the shower I knocked it off while drying myself. In the middle, I could see a sort of black spot and it was sticking up. I gave it a little tug and much to my horror, I pulled out a three inch long piece of what I can only describe as blue plasticky twine. I can only think that this is what was used to stitch me up. Now, everyone I have spoken to say I should tell the hospital, but after all these years I feel a bit foolish doing this. I am not seeking any sort of recompense as I don't see the need, but does anyone think I should tell the hospital? Thanks for any advice.

Well of course it can happen , sometimes things work their way free.

As long as there is no soreness or obvious infection then the choice to tell or not is yours.
If it were me I'd not bother.
It does happen that a piece of stitch which should have dissolved doesn’t and works its way out just as you have described. while its never planned, its certainly normal. Do you feel well in general? any fever or aches and pains? soreness or tenderness around your scar? Has the spot healed, is it still sore? weeping? anything? if all the answers are no then I certainly wouldn’t be worried by it but of you are at all concerned then talk to your own GP.
I bet that grossed you out a bit.

My uncle had an accident and had to have his arms pinned. Some years later one of the pins made it's way out. Doctor just said his body obviously didn't need it anymore.

Thank you all for your answers. The spot appears to be healing. Personally I didn't think it was worth telling the hospital, it was other people I told said I should.
I can see it may unnerve some as it sounds a bit odd but not that uncommon , keep an eye on the sire and as Woof says report any problems to GP.

Keep it as a souvenir :-)
on the site, sorry
I agree with all the above posters......forget it.
