Seen it somewhere that hearing is the last sense to go.
I would suppose it would depend what they are dying of. My dad died of cancer and although he didn't open his eyes or eat/drink he could hear me as he'd squeeze my hand when I spoke.
I've heard the same as Danny

I had heard about hearing too. I wondered if there was a pattern to which senses were lost and in what order.
hearing, going on o/h and the Macmillan nurse.
Well I don't know in general terms but I'm hoping that it's my sense of humour that hangs around longest.
Hearing.....so they say.
I am not sure what scientific evidence there is for this, if any.

I'm sure that you will retain it right to the end, Douglas. :-)
sqad
so said the nurse, who i trusted implicitly. she was the only one with an ounce of sense out of the useless bleeding doctor and his nursing staff.
You need some letter cards and an upturned glass, then just hold a survey.

May I express my condolences Douglas.
my hearing's already on the way out. I hope the rest don't try to overtake it.
erm how would we find out ?
Question Author
I realise that it's impossible to know for sure.

Thanks for the answers.
Well when someone doesn't open their eyes, eat/drink, talk, or move, but they can still hear people...that's an indication.

....and touch must be one of the latter senses to go, following on from what you've said about your dad, Ummmm.
Question Author
Jno, my hearing has always been poor so I don't know whether its going or not.
Yes...it's very sad to watch.
//Well I don't know in general terms but I'm hoping that it's my sense of humour that hangs around longest. // & me 92 & still waiting. I understand however that there are people dying now who have never died before.
Question Author
I know, Ummmm.
They say it is hearing but nobody could really know because they can't come back to tell us
