Can anyone recommend something good for the gut, as what I usually take, Actimel etc, has been rubbished in the Press or is usually full of sugar or both, so what is the use of a yoghurt, natural or otherwise? Ta Muchly and AB Editor, I find AB difficult for my screen reader, if this question gets through that is!...help from Buenchico.

what problem do you have with your gut? If you don’t have a problem then why do you need anything but a decent diet?
I read that Sauerkraut is excellent for problems in the gut, but that you should buy it from a small home-made supplier, (farmer's market?) or make it yourself, as the big wholesale suppliers tend to kill the good bacteria.
I echo woofgang. Good combination of food groups should be fine for your gut. If there is a specfic gut issue than there may be some change that could be suggested.
It is true that I have seen fermented foods being recommended as part of your diet. I'd recommend a good dark ale. Old Peculier is nice.
If you want a yogurt,get a plain ( full fat or fat free ) Greek yogurt. They are usually full of "good" bacteria. Do NOT get green style.
If you have any Polish food shops,look for kefir...it's a yogurt type fermented drink.
I don't think you need to have gut problems to benefit from these...as they may help maintain healthy gut flora.
Pastafreak, when you say 'green' do you mean avoid 'bio'??

"I don't think you need to have gut problems to benefit from these...as they may help maintain healthy gut flora.”

and they “may” not :)
I have been taking Probiotics ( good bacteria) in powder form that I buy in the chemist. Since taking it I have found my " gut" feels better, I don't feel bloated and I has helped excessive gas. How embarrassing! I make Mr.Sam take it now, only on his second day.
Camomile Tea
@jennykenny...I meant to type "Greek style"...sorry! ;-)
@woofgang...I believe there is sufficient quality research into the positive effect of fermented foods such as kefir and sauerkraut, along with yogurt, on the gut.
Trust Me I'm a Doctor a week or so ago put various gut treatments to the test and only kefir - mentioned by Pastafreak above - was actually found to be effective in increasing the quantity and variety of good bacteria.

Had a few "gut" probs of late, had scans and all sorts. Was recommended "Kefir" to help - been taking it for two weeks now, feel much better. Whether it's working or just psychological I don't know, but it makes me feel better !! Beware though if you do try it - it smells and tastes horrible - have almost got used to it now.

I swear by a pint of green tea first thing in the morning, it has so many health benefits and keeps my hydrated most the day. I just googled it and this came up too: Inflammation Blocker. ... It turns out that naturally-occurring substances in the tea can help block the progression of inflammation. Tea also contains polyphenols, which act as antioxidants and help to promote healthy gut bacteria and discourage inflammation. Black and green teas are especially high in polyphenol
Apple cider vinegar is good too.
