For the last few weeks, my elbows have begun to ache during the latter part of the day. By the time I go to bed they are really uncomfortable and I find it difficult to get to sleep. Is there a 'resting' position for my arms which will alleviate the discomfort? Straight arms? Crooked arms? Fully bent arms? Which position will be the optimum, no stress position? None of them seem to help.

Is it arthritis creeping in? Will ibuprofen help?

I am going to follow your post, with interest Tilly. I have dreadful pain in my left elbow which is caused by the tendons in my left hand being very tight & one finger on that hand hasn't been straight for over 3 years. I bought an elasticated support especially for elbow use & it most certainly has helped. Ibuprofen would help if you are tolerant of it. Sadly, I can't take it but do use the stuff containing this to rub in. All the best. Pat

Well lets hope that someone comes up with some kind of answer, TLG.

I do suspect that mine is arthritis related. My Dad reckons it's because I have spent years resting my elbows on the desk at school, glaring at children!
Is it too much housework, tilly;-)
Question Author
Possibly, Melv, possibly. Those horse brasses need a lot of polishing.

Teacher Tony??

Not I, Sharon.

But I remember being on the receiving end of 'The Assembly Stare' a few times.
Question Author
Yes, Sharon, I was. However, that has absolutely nothing to do with me having aching elbows. I didn't even have leather patches on my suit jackets!

Ah, so you didn't teach geography then.
I have bursitis in my elbows and it is usually bearable. Every so often it gets very sore, elbows are red and sometimes infected.

I wasn't a teacher, but as a Civil Servant I often used my elbows to keep me upright during naps.
Question Author
Wolf, that sounds horrible but I don't have any redness or swelling so I don't think it's bursitis.

In the meantime, anyone know the resting position?

Read this Tills. You aren't still making 5 dozen oatcakes a day are you?
Question Author
Thanks, Togo. I read that down to the injections part.....nooooo! Makes me think I need to see a GP and take some ibuprofen

Not making 'em, but would eat 'em if I could. Not had an oatcake for a while. None left in the freezer.
Question Author
Serious now.

Can anyone help?
Try different resting positions until you find the most comfortable one. Other than that I think you need to have a chat with your doctor Tilly, must be lowering for you at times. I would think heat would help.
