which certainly has changed since its invention in the eighteenth century.

A sheriff has more powers of enforcement of a court order than a bailiff.

A Sheriff will get involved on claims of £600 or over

thank u
not sure what ummmm is on about, a Sheriff is an old English peace keeper derived from Shire Reeve.
TTT, Scotland has Sheriff Courts and the rest of the UK doesn't.

A High Court enforcement officer (HCEO) is an officer of the High Court of England and Wales responsible for enforcing judgements of the High Court, often by seizing goods or repossessing property.

Prior to 2004, HCEOs were known as "sheriff's officers" and were responsible for enforcing High Court writs on behalf of the high sheriff for each county, but are now directly responsible for such writs. HCEOs operate only in England and Wales .

Scotland has always had a different legal system, and Scottish sheriffs are a type of Judge.
What hc said!!
Who are the Sheriffs?
We are High Court Enforcement Officers (HCEOs) and until 2004 HCEOs were known as Sheriffs Officers.
HCEOs enforce County Court judgments (CCJ) over £600 and High Court judgments throughout England and Wales using a Writ of Control
