Second toe is starting to cross over big toe. Big toe has had bunion 35 years but straight. How can I stop process of second toe crossing over the front of this toe? Dont want to get to the point where I need surgery. Not painful but second toe aches when I walk. Is there a splint I can buy and would I have to wear it all the time? Tia

You need to see a podiatrist. Within the NHS, the starting point is with your GP, otherwise you can see one privately.
You can get a splint
I had a silicone separator made by a chiropodist. I should wear it all the time.
Hi Smurfchops. I have the same problem,a bunion. I cut a piece of sponge and placed it between big toe and second toe, that will keep the toe straight.Cut a thick piece and keep trimming it off until it's comfortable

So do you have to wear the separator forever or will second toe eventually straighten again??
Hi Sc.
Yes you will have to wear it forever,if you were young then it would make the toe straight.
But when you get over 60 youv'e got to live with it.
You can buy toe seperators from chemist's they are made of foam and moulded to fit your toes better.
