Hi all. I hate to say it almost but my 7 year old daughter wakes up with really bad smelling breath. Her diet wouldn't be too bad and we are very strict on brushing teeth but it's not good. If she has a cold it can be even worse. I am so worried that eventually she'll get picked on at school because of it. I make sure she brushes her teeth well and uses mouthwash so this does help but it's still not great. Any ideas would be welcomed please. Thanks

Have a look at this, mats01, could be one of several reasons.

without looking at the link - from I heard from - it is usually what she "eats". good luck
Has she got a stuffy nose that makes her sleep with her mouth open? That can cause bad breath
People react and process food differently. Try varying her diet or excluding items to check effect - does she eat late as that might be an issue.

"wakes up"....that gives you a clue as it could mean that she is snoring due to nasal problems.......e.g enlarged adenoids & OR tonsils.

Unfortunately the diagnosis will only be a matter of exclusion and tonyav has given you a mandatory link......

Sometimes, no cause can be found.......however, your dentist& Gp seems to be the first port of call.
