What's the current medical opinion on these medications

Reading the information leaflet , it states that it can cause kidney problems / kidney failure . ( amongst other things )
There have been reports they can cause sudden renal failure .

I am taking the combination drug - Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide .

I'm thinking of asking my GP to take me off it and prescribe a non ACE inhibitor drug .

Anyone on here taking Lisinopril ?

What do you think ?

\\\\\I'm thinking of asking my GP to take me off it and prescribe a non ACE inhibitor drug .\\\\

and what had you got in mind to replace it with.

An ACE inhibitor with or without a diuretic is the most up to date treatment of high BP giving you the best chance of longevity.

All drugs have side effects and yes ...ACE inhibitors "may" affect the kidneys........may.

However high BP if left untreated will certainly affect the kidneys giving a degree of kidney failure. There are other drugs that lower the BP but do not affect the kidneys, but not as effective of controlling BP as ACE inhibitors..............my advice............stay put.
Yes, discuss it with your GP but do not "bound" into his surgery with AB, amateurish suggestions.

thanks
I've been ok on ace inhibitor enalapril (which I assume is similar) + bendroflumethiazide for years and have regular blood tests to check kidney function etc.
I take Lisinopril my kidney function, anecdotal and scientific is fine as is my blood sugar, cholestorol and blood pressure.
Best leave the doctorin' to the folk with the doctor badge is what I think.
