I am on this for Period Pain but my GP only gave me 14 which will see me through 2 periods. My late mum was on the 500mg tablets (I can't take them as they make me slightly loopy) but she has some left over, would it be ok to split one in half and take it as I would the normal 250mg. I know this is maybe frowned upon, but it is something that I use and just wanted to see that it was ok?

TIA

Queenie !! are you off your rocker ??!!
(I mean that in the nicest possible way)

Do not take any medicine that is not prescribed for you, even if you do half the tablets, it would have to be extremely precise.
I think these have a coating and aren't supposed to be split - check with Pharmacist or Surgery first and get some more of your usual dosage ordered.

Then get them to dispose of any old meds in the cabinet.
Whilst Alba has given you the sensible answer I am not sensible.

I had them for heavy periods and I am sure that the ones that I had had a hard shell. I wouldn't even chance cutting them.

If they are crossed then 'I' would half them and check that I was still alive the next morning.

I have to cut up Frankie's Prednisolone tablets - he is the cute lad in my avatar.

Maybe sqad will be around soon but I haven't seen him much lately. Do you think that we should all go and visit him to make sure that he is okay??

Wolfie, if he hears we're going to visit, he'll let Mrs Sqad go shopping whilst he hides in his club
Seems a good idea to me..
we will find him :-)

I think we found him Alba/Wolf.

Mine are a hard shell so should be able to cut.
I can't get them on repeat Mamya so I have to make an appointment each time i need them, and getting into summer months I don't have much time to run up and not get an appointment (like most surgeries you need to know you will be ill in advance). But it is something that I will enquire about, next time I'm up.

Alba, I was never on my rocker in the first place, but I do know not to take meds meant for others BUT i have been on 500mg before, but if Sqad is ok with it, I'll check with my friend who works in the Pharmacy too just to be safe.

wolf he is gorgeous, I have to empty a Cystease capsule into Teddy's meal, thats the easy part, the Metacalm is a whole different ball game - I might be beach ready in no time LOL.

They have a coating for a reason, but as you've now had medical advice - good luck.

I would remind the GP that unlike illness, periods tend to be a regular occurrence and it would be helpful to have some on standby in future.

this is true mamya, the Dr in question is VERY concerned about al aspects of health, he's obsessed with my kidneys, its good but he asks how they are when I see him, as far as I know they are fully functioning and working hard like they should - which i guess is why he only gave me 14 but I'm not silly I have my other meds for pain relief and I only take them if i deem it absolutely necessary.
\\\\They have a coating for a reason, but as you've now had medical advice - good luck. \\\

Not all Naproxen tablets have coating, some are scored......the ones that have coating are to ensure that they have passed tho stomach before they are absorbed ( enteric coated).
Not sure that we needed the "good luck comment."

This is a post about a one off situation in which she is having period pains.....

Not sure what deleterious effects it would have other than to guess the dose taken.
Personally I'd also cut one in half and take it is I was sure it's the same medication

Thank you Sqad, I think Mamya said Good Luck as y'know people care and don't want anything to happen, or she could be good lucking me to cut the thing in 2.

I know Smowball, I mean I could take the whole 500mg tablet but I'd end up in a total state of everything that goes wrong when I take them, so half of 1 will do fine twice a day and I can get on with my life.

Of course.
You said they had a hard shell which I took to mean a coating - as a one off I'd probably do it too.

However what one does and what one advises someone else to do is often different.

Yes I do care or I wouldn't reply but as I have no medical background I understand why people prefer to wait for those that do to answer.

I hope you get some pain relief very soon.
My Naproxen are an elongated shape with a line across the centre, so should be easy to cut.
These are on sale in supermarkets in the States rather than on prescription like here. I've certainly given them to my son-in-law when he had problems with the fasciitis muscle in his foot.
