Hi I broke my arm a week last Saturday I fell down half a flight of stairs landing fully on my left wrist I heard the bone crack and subsequently I required surgery a week ago to insert a plate into my arm.
So a week later all my fingers are still swollen and bruising is still appearing up and down my arm and it still aches like goodness knows what!
My question is - is the swelling in my fingers and bruising normal or do I need to get it checked out - my appt with fracture clinic is not until 12th May.
Thanking you guys in anticipation and yeah I'm a clumsy twit!!!

Get it checked out by someone who can actually see the arm/hand
I broke my arm years ago and got two pins and plate in my arm too - get it checked if you want but it is par for the course what you are experiencing.
When I broke my hand the swelling and bruising was really bad. I had to go back to get a new cast on as once the swelling went down the cast didn't fit.

I broke my toe a few months ago and it's still swollen.
Swelling & bruising is normal, however it is best to see someone and have it checked in case the plaster is too tight.

I don't have a plaster cast its dressing and bandage
Blimey...that must be painful. Are they waiting for the swelling to go down before putting it a cast?
I am no medic but do think your arm should be in a sling.

Neighbour's son broke his wrist and they didn't give him a sling at the hospital. He carried quite heavy cast sorta down beside his side. I lent him mine and he said right away it was a boon. He wore it for the full six weeks.

Methinks you would get ease if it was propped up.

I have a sling which I wear during the day - I was told that when I go to fracture clinic I will then have a splint?
Fully agree, it will help reduce swelling if supported in sling and will no doubt feel easier. Has the hospital given you an advice sheet or suggested moving your fingers which helps stop stiffness and helps circulation. Best wishes for a quick recovery.

Yes I need to wriggle my fingers which I do try to but with them being so fat and painful hard at min I suppose par for the course.
Last Saturday?/ only 3 days after the event.......you would expect, swelling, pain and bruising. No plaster cast or operative intervention would suggest that the "fracture" is no big deal.
No need to get it checked out.......keep you appt on May 12th.
Question Author
No it was a week last Saturday I was operated on a week ago today.
Confusing and not enough specific details.......my initial post remains the same.

Had a 'Break' about 3 yrs ago, lots of swelling for about 2 wks, never was plastered, it was in a strappy fibreglass moulded thingy (tech. term there) that if I was careful I could take off and have a shower.
