My sympathies, gordie. I have suffered from it many times. I'm sure your doctor will have told you that usually it passes before too much time has passed. If it is due to a back problem, such as a disc having slipped and affecting the nerve, then phsio may be needed. Time will tell. Be of good cheer, it will go eventually, but it's a horrible pain, I agree. Try a hot-water bottle on it.
Gordie, I know that, like me, you are overweight. I have found that carrying a rucksack on my back (usually with my shopping in it) seems to help. I presume that it pulls my spine in a better position.

I have to sleep on my side too - sometimes I manage to get a warm little cat to lie against my back.

It will go away but as you realise - it hurts like flux when it is here.

yes it is very painful but it does pass but after quite a time - I think I had mine about 6 months - but it just became part of life - then one day no pain.
