I've been prescribed the above, 2 per day. I'm on the second day so have taken 4. My main problem is I've got such a dreadful taste in my mouth that nothing can disguise. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it please.

Are you drinking plenty water?? Otherwise maybe a mouth spray so you don't feel your breath smells.
The bad taste in your mouth is listed as one of the common side effects of this anti biotic, I take anti biotics on a regular basis for an ongoing complaint and feel I always have bad breath from medication so I use strong mouthwash just to get rid of the horrible taste. Plenty of water is good idea (if you can stomach it-I can't) Get well soon

Thank you both I'll try drinking water and see how that goes. Thought it strange earlier when my son said my breath smelt, never thought of the anti-bio's.
When I was little I got secondary TB from my father. I had to take the new wonder drug then, Streptomycin. It came in capsule form and my mother would tip out the powder and mix it into a paste.

It tasted, foul. I used to drink strong Ribena straight after. That helped. No mouthwashes in those days.
chrissa....i think that Streptomycin had to be given by injection, as it was never available to be given by mouth. Are you thinking of P.A.S?

masma......that is a very odd side effect of Clarithromycin, very odd indeed, just wondering why your are taking the antibiotic?
Oh right, sqad. I was only 4 at the time and didn't know much. My father was in a sanitarium for 6 months and we were allowed to visit him once a week.
lots of side effects masma , horrible. maybe oral thrush ?
sqad on the patient leaflet for this drug it says it's a very common (not odd) side effect

Common clarithromycin side effects may include:

stomach pain, indigestion, gas;
vomiting, mild diarrhea;
XX unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth;XX
headache, sleep problems (insomnia);
mild itching or rash; or
vaginal itching or discharge.
Had this antibiotic several times. Aftertaste is one of the common side effects but they are quite good antibiotic in my opinion
The mouthwash cb12 kills bad breath...

Its around £10 a bottle but it gives a 10ml
Measured dose so it lasts!!!

Mabye take the clarith over on a spoonfull of yoghurt if its leaving a taste? Xx
@eanceoil

Quite right. I bow to greater knowledge.It was a side effect that didn't "spring to mind" re. antibiotics.

Thank you all.
Sqad.. It's for a chest infection related to bronchietasis. I've had 2 weeks of Ammoxicillin which didn't touch it now I'm taking the Clarithromysin which I understand will mess up my Warfarin levels too!
masma.......ah! with a chest full of pus and coughing up purulent sputum it would be my opinion that the pus is causing the bad taste in your mouth and probably nothing to do with the antibiotics.

( Gk word for grotty mouth taste )
