I started going to church several years ago, to play the organ rather than pray, to be honest and have met loads and loads of kind people there but really I don't go to church to pray.

Not everyone goes to church for many reasons and not everyone believes in God, so when you are faced with troubled times and looking for optimism and hope, perhaps, which is your best way of communicating with an invisible higher power?

I don't know what to suggest. I was never asked about my beliefs when attending my mums church. They used to have 'family fun days' and it was great fun. If you didn't have transport they'd pick you up and drop you off. Youth clubs for the youngsters, days out at minimum cost. People from all walks of life. All were welcome. This is/was an evangelical church. It was...

I don't communicate with an invisible higher power.
Sorry you're troubled chik ... I'm not much help x
I don't believe in an invisible higher power, whether you call it god or something else.
Whether or not one is a believer, if people find that it gives them strength, or comfort, then it's not a bad thing.
Personally ... I suppose I try & find the positives .. hard times .. had some of those in the last year. Life can be very hard sometimes x
No...I think praying is just a way of putting your thoughts in order....so not a bad thing as such.
A way of putting your thought in order?

What a good way of looking at it, ummmm. I like that.
I think in the end anything we go through is a state of mind that won't last forever ... the mind finds a way of coping ... whether that's looking out and seeing what others are going through. That's not to say 'your' problem is in any way less relevant x

Hello ummm, fair enough, elina... I'm not troubled, life is too short to be troubled, chanel5 why not? joggerjayne... Yes!
No, I don't believe in an "invisible being" and during times of stress and emotional upset, i don't need help and certainly wouldn't turn to friends " for support.

It is a matter of stop moping and feeling sorry for yourself, face the facts and get on with life.
Prayer doesn't have to mean prayer in the traditional sense ... it covers deep thoughts of a cry for help from within to anything that's listening. Whether that's just a way of helping cope?
Stiff upper lip, Sqad?

Which only works for a few.
ummmm...that's it, although it might work for more if tranquilizers and psychtropic drugs were less freely available.
Question Author
Yes Elina I think it helps one to focus, clear the mine, try to see things from a different perspective and the answer may pop into our heads, which some may see as God, others see it as Spirit and some people just don't know what it is.

Clear the mind.
Lol....I don't believe in stiff upper lip. The most aggressive people I know never expressed any weakness of emotion. Or what they viewed as weakness.

I'm not one for turning to medication to get through issues that life throws our way, we all have to deal with crap at some point. I also wouldn't go down the therapy route (personally) but I am all for not bottling things up. If you feel it...say it...if it makes you cry...so be it...cry.

Question Author
Going to see a counsellor helps ummm, definitely not a good idea to bottle thins up!

Virtues iPad "thins" we're supposed to be things, never mind.
Laughter is good for the soul but what when we are left on our own?
Surely that's why people go to church?
Yes...can work wonders for some.

Not everyone can get to church...
