For a few weeks now , i have had swollen feet and ankles - the right markedley more so than the left

Doctor has ordered urine / blood tests to see if anything is flagged up

He beleives it's a case of odema and suggest a course of Diuretics
I'm already on a combined tablet of Lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide - 20/12.5 mg

I don't really want to go on a higher dose of hydrochlorothiazide for obvious reasons .

Any other suggestions ?

Bazile.....I don't like "combination drugs" never have....never will.

Clearly you have hypertension and the combination drug is not working, because your feet are swelling.

To me, you have 2 choices:

1) Ask to see a Consultant for a second opinion.
2) Ask if you can have your BP lowering drug and your diuretic as separate tablets.

\\I don't really want to go on a higher dose of hydrochlorothiazide for obvious reasons . \\

Why? What are those obvious reasons and whether you want to or not.........you need a larger dose off diuretics.

Thanks for your reply sqad

Would you also reccomend seeing if a seperate higher dose of diuretics fixes the problem , before asking for a Consultants opinion ?
I would asses the attitude of your GP.
If he is responsive to splitting your diuretics and BP tablets into to separate tablets , increasing the strength of your diuretics, then i would give him a go.

If he is resistant, then i would ask to see a Consultant.
Bazile......of course I am assuming that your BP is under control, but if it isn't, then you BP lowering tablet may have to be increased.

thanks

By the way the ' obvious ' reasons was having to urinate more often
LOL^^^...;-)

My last BP check was by the doctor in question at the time i saw her .

Readings were

154/89
142/83
142/84

She also is arranging for a 24 hour BP checks
OK...they are TOO HIGH and could be responsible for your ankle swelling.

Good move on the part of your GP to check 24 hour readings.
Question Author
Within what range should the BP ideally be ?
I would be looking at 110-120.... over .... 70-80

crikey !!!
^^^^ quite!

sqad - are you still about ?

Is there any reason why it should affect one foot much more than the other ?
Bazile ...just ad a nap ;-)

It usually affects both to differing degrees, but if only one is swollen and the other is normal, then that is a different "ball game" and needs investigation.
