I have been having pain that started in my lower right back for a couple of weeks now.
it started in the lower back and then it was affecting my right buttock for quite a few days then it travelled down to my right leg with an achey feeling that ran down as far as my calf and shin. This has improved now but I can still feel a little bit of ache in my lower back.
Also I have on occasions been waking up on my side (which is how I've always preferred to sleep) and I have no feeling in my hands. This has been going on a little longer than the 2 weeks . I have just woken up this morning with this again.
I had a miscarriage 6 weeks ago in early pregnancy - I don't know if this has any relation to these symptoms. the pain was preceded by a particular heavy ,painful period.
Is this something that will pass or is a trip to the GP called for?...

sciatica ?? trapped nerve ?? I would see GP though ! hope you are better soon...sorry to hear about miscarriage :o(
I agree with minty,...a visit to GP is called for here, I think. Numbness in one hand could be explained away by lying on it,...but both? :( Good luck x x
nothing to do with the miscarriage
tme for the GP I think
Yes, I agree with my good friend murraymints, it does sound like sciatica and as it is now settling, there is no need for a medial opinion.

No feeling in the hands or pins and needles in the hands (paraesthesia) on wakening is more common than one might imagine and the causes is unknown or not often found. Again, no need to see your GP.

Monitor the situation for the next 2 weeks.
:o) ..Sqad xx
I too think you have sciatica - it is quite a painful thing and I have had it numerous times but usually my left leg. Wont go away in a day or two tho.

Thankyou everyone. I wasn't sure if it was a disc problem and the two were connected so thats a relief if they are two 'minor' issues.
I suggest you look up "ankylosing spondylitis" and see if your symptoms are similar.
Most importantly, a chat with your doctor is most certainly advised. The symptoms in your back and leg are very much like those of your sciatic nerve being under pressure / pinched (Sciatica). As far as your hands go, these symptoms can be present in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and if things get worse, can be sorted either with injections or a minor operation, both of which I have had done on my left hand/wrist and will most probably have on my right very soon. But, I am not a doctor and these symptoms may present themselves in many other conditions. So, please get a proper check up and seek advice from your doctor. Best wishes.
