There have been several periods since the JW group was formed in the 1870's that Armageddon was near. Why was the decade leading up to 1975 a key prediction time for the 'end'?

The latest edition of Watchtower once again makes a grim prediction. Are the leaders of the group going to be correct this time?

No.
Sells more copies and raises funds.
I don't believe anything that's in a watchtower mag I only believe Nostradamus !.
I wouldn't believe anything from an organisation that rewrites the bible when it suits them.
Question Author
I wonder what the 'army of angelic creatures' look like? Intriguing. I note the author is unnamed. How does a presumably senior figure in the ranks arrive at such a conclusion? Is there any consultation?
Naomi should like this: http://www.bible.ca/watchtower.gif
I suspect it will get postponed again.
We poor souls have not finished with the place yet.
It's a wonder we've survived as long as we have when so many are willing to believe, follow after, if not kill and die to prove their devotion to, someone who claims to speak on behalf of an invisible sky faire.
What is a geddon and why would he be issued with a implement
Did you not know for Jehovah’s day to come he always forewarns us.

We live in a God-dishonoring world in which teachers of false religion, as well as agnostics and atheists, mock the Creator with their speech.
But we cannot risk being affected,we take to heart and say ‘thank you’ to Jehovah’s Witnesses, and to the many like me.

And I say, learn more before you mock.
Why do you have to 'speak' like an old Methodist minister Goodlife?
Didn't the early Christian church expect the "end"

It's a good money making tradition - scare the punters out of their dosh
//But we cannot risk being affected,we take to heart and say ‘thank you’ to Jehovah’s Witnesses, and to the many like me. //

Thank you for what?, I'm not sure, but thank you anyway.

\\\ we cannot risk being affected///
That is not faith, that's an insurance policy.
"I wouldn't believe anything from an organisation that rewrites the bible when it suits them."

I'd go further....I wouldn't believe anything from any organisation or any individual who pays any credence to anything in the bible.

I find it simply astonishing that people actually live their lives by the ramblings in an old book.
What can you do to cultivate a grateful disposition? First, never take any kind action for granted. How difficult is it simply to say “thank you” and really mean it.

In some places, because of misguided tradition, people feel it is unnecessary to say, “Please” or, “Thank you.” Yet the Bible help us to ‘show ourselves thankful.’—Colossians 3:15.
// Why was the decade leading up to 1975 a key prediction time for the 'end'? //

They believe there are prophesies in the Bible that predict the nearing of armaggedon. They believed that the first world war was a key indicator and the prophesy said 3 generations from that time. So WWI plus 3 generations @ 20 years each gave 1975.

When that proved to be wrong, they decided the first world war wasn't the indicator, so it must be the second world war. WWII was 3 generations ago, so according to them, armageddon is due.

Pesky business prophesy and prediction. But here's mine, I predict the JWs will have egg on their faces again
At least they haven't got blood on their hands, gromit. Unlike AB's favourite nutters.
You are right svejk. A JW would never handle any blood products :-)
You have got it all wrong. If you go the media they do not have the full facts. Go to the official website, nothing is hidden. You can go round in circles and get nowhere. There is a saying, "If you want the truth, get it from the horses mouth".
