Has anyone ever done this. We have a guest bathroom that doesn't get used much and , although we try to remember to use it now and then, a line forms , I suppose from the calcium in the water, in the toilet bowl. I heave read some where that if you pour a large bottle of coke in the bowl and leave it overnight, it gets rid of those deposits. Do you think it has to be real coca cola, or supermarket brand ? I know that sounds daft, but maybe there is an ingredient in one and not the other that does this.

Regardless of whether it works or not, why would you use it in preference to a product designed to do the job ?
Cola works but actual toilet cleaner is cheaper and better. Just leave a small amount in the Loo water.
don't torture yourself if and whens of a drop of cola - buy the toilet cleaner - just a pound in the Poundland. Drink your cola for god's sakes.
If you leave a penny in a small glass of coke it will remove tarnish over a few days - but so will orange juice. Basically they are both weak acids - also why they rot teeth.
The cheapest Cola works just as well as the dear stuff.
I reckon drinking the toilet cleaner would probably do you less damage than the kraap thats in the cola
Get one of those things you pop into the cistern.
A long dead uncle of my wife was a merchant seaman. He jumped ship in Ozz and found a job in a Coca Cola plant where it was made under licence. He said the stainless steel vats had to be replaced about every 2 years because the acid ate through it. He demonstrated the damage by putting one of my young son's teeth in a tumbler of Coke and we fished it out 3 weeks later. Awful.
yes it does work very well..toilet is the best place for it in my opinion !
My fav soft drink...although I rarely drink it nowadays.

Thanks everyone. I hate ddrinking the stuff, but I am going to give it a go in the toilet. I gave tried all the toilet cleaners and still can't get the stains off. I will let you know how I get on

Ice and Lemon with that?
If you've tried "all the toilet cleaners" and there are still stains....you'll have even more stains after using cola....bet you!
You don't want a cleaner aka bleach based, you want a lime scale remover. provided that the porcelain is not cracked or worn away, it will be the limescale that adheres to the porcelain that holds the staining. Get rid of the limescale and you get rid of the staining.

I have tried that Woofgang.
It takes more than one go. When you put the descaler on the line of scale, does the line fizz?
I would do the same with Coke (given the choice) as that is where it suits better. I stopped drinking this thing looooooong time ago.

However coming back to your toilet problem, I had same problem where we have a toilet we don't use regularly. I bought something from Wilkinson and poured it in overnight and flushed in the morning. Sparkling clean it became. Now I just use that ocassionaly.
^^ 'Spirit of Salts 'is what you need. That is just dilute Hydrochloric acid. You can get it from hardware stores. That will be what Keyplus got.

I've tried Coke - totally ineffective in my experience
