Does anyone know the best thing to treat smelly shoes? I have not had my trainers long but already they are beginning to smell despite spraying them regularly. Is talcum powder a good option?

Don't use talcum powder as the perfume will go stale and add to the smell. The best and cheapest thing to use is bicarbonate of soda - Put a good amount into each trainer and shake to make sure it has covered the entire insole. Leave at least overnight and then tip the residue out. Your trainers will be left feeling much fresher, just repeat as necessary.
Spraying some aerosol air freshener - the powerful anti-tobacco type might also help.
Spangle's answer is the best thing :-)
A few drops of lemon essential oil really works.
I always wash mine - trainers in with a very, very  full load of washing and other shoes in the diswasher - they come up beautiful. :-)
and where do you wash the dishes? Tigerthecat :)
I suffered from this with my trainers for ages. After seeing a TV documentary, I realised I had a fungal infection on my feet, although there weren't really any visible signs.

The solution was to rub Canestan cream onto my feet after showering in the morning. Within a couple of weeks, no smelly shoes at all. Gone.

I think they now do a specific foot cream, but the anti-thrush one works exactly the same.

Good luck.

That's great thanks. After looking at other websites I learnt that using anti perspirant on your feet works well. I've tried it for 2 days and it really makes a difference! By the end of the day there is no smell at all.
i heard a good way too get rid of smelly shoes,is get pair tights and fill each foot with cat litter(clean of course)put tights with litter in trainers(leave overnight). The litter absorbs smell and moisture.
