Penicillin

Can I get it over the counter or from the nurse. I can't be doing with all the faff that goes with trying to see the GP. I'm sure I just need a blast of penicillin. Sore throat and its tingling. I don't want to be ill on the big day.

No, you can't...because people would be taking it for all the wrong reasons...like a pre-cold sore throat.

No and it`s probably a virus so you wouldn`t get antibiotics anyway. There are loads of throat bugs going around at the moment (I`m off sick from work due to it).

Make sure you stock up with over the counter drugs before the shops shut for christmas.

I'm very lucky when comes to colds etc. I've not had one for at least 11 years. Unbelievable really when OH is always getting them! I'll just sit it out then and take paracetamol if it hurts any more. No time to be poorly, too much cooking to do. Thanks all.

237sj. I've got all in one lemsips, I find they're as good as anything else.

As 237SJ says sore throats and colds are viral infections and not bacterial which penicillin and other antibiotics are used to treat.

I woke up with a sore throat, body and ear ache and nausea yesterday. Later on it developed into shivering and feverishness. I've just been taking paracetamol to sweat it out and ease the aching.
