As I seem to have a reflux problem, I've now been given an appointment to have an Endoscopy.

Is there anyone on here that has had this procedure? How did you get on with it?

Thank you.

Which ENDoscopy?
Naughty Sqad.
Had the second of these only last week. I'd had a scare imagining things like oesophagal cancer, and it turned out to be a trivial problem called peptic stricture.
In my case quick, fast, safe and painless operation under sedation. Good luck, Wiltsman
My son had one. He said it was ok. The staff know you will feel uncomfortable and will make it as easy for you as possible.
I would guess wiltsman there is a good chance for an answer as someone on here seems to have undergone most procedures, good luck.
Not a pleasant experience but you will be sedated.
I have.

They sedate you first, so you are really only vaguely aware of the procedure.

I was vaguely aware of something moving inside me, but there was no pain.

Fantasy pregnancy andyhughes lol.
I prefer to be knocked out, as I was in the States, the whole thing about 40 minutes, 3 polyps removed from the colon. none of which were problematic. It's due again. The worse part is the enema solution - which works but is gross tasting.

Sorry Sqad - I have to report to the local hospital's Endoscopy Unit; the procedure is Gatroscopy. Inspection of the gullet, stomach and duodenum using a flexible endoscope/camera. With or without biopsies and photographs.

I understand that after discussion, I can have a throat spray or sedation.

Just like to know a little more from someone who has experienced this procedure.
Wiltsman is asking for sensible answers.
DSJ I am so sorry if I offended anyone with my flippant remark, please forgive me.

Which ENDoscopy?
---------------
At the risk of appearing pedantic, if it's a reflux problem I'd hazard a guess at top end???

I'll get me coat.........

wiltsman,
You will be fine, standard procedure probably under sedation, I doubt you'll even recall having it done.
I was given the option of sedation recently and chose not to have it. If I had to have the procedure done again, I would opt to have sedation.
Take the sedation option wilt. My old man didn't and wishes he had. good luck, I hope everything goes well x
is it not called colonoscopy if its bottom end ??
Chilli...you are correct.......I tried to be clever, but didn't notice the "reflex thing." Bad marks for sqad.
Indeed it is tezmand, hence my post. I've never seen anyone have a colonoscopy for reflux, only an OGD(Oesophago-Gastro Duodenoscopy) or Gastroscopy.
Put simply an Endoscopy is...

en·dos·co·py (n-dsk-p)
n.
Examination of the interior of a canal or hollow organ by means of an endoscope.

Take the sedation Wiltsman and am sure it will be fine.
I guessed as much Sqad, hence my post! LOL
