Does anyone on this site know what the symptoms of food poisoning are?
Feeling nauseous and am very dizzy every time I stand up. Was sick in the middle of the night but was scared to go back to bed because of the dizziness when I lie down or stand up.

Could be labrynthitis? I get similar symptoms with my Meniere's Disease.
I only ever had food poisoning once (salmon!) and was VIOLENTLY sick and it lasted for several days. I was VERY dizzy and woozy . I drank loads and loads of water and ate nothing. I stayed indoors, didn't go to work and hoped for the best that it would pass . It did, but I was really ill for a few days. Best wishes Maggie xx
You'd be sick more than once with food poisoning. It could be just a tummy bug. Lack of food can make you dizzy.
Ginge I 've had labyrinthitis and was certainly really bad and had to take a course of SERC tablets. I was never sick with it though, just VERY dizzy and a spinning bed !
lots of vomiting/diarrhoea
@jan: apart from lack of balance/ dizziness, nausea and vomiting are common with labrynthitis....so you were lucky!

Had a meal out on Saturday evening - stuffed chicken. Was OK yesterday apart from feeling sightly nauseous. However was very sick, nauseous and dizzy through the night and it's not going away. No appetite but drinking loads of water. Thanks all for your suggestions/advice.

Note to self - keep hydrated but do not drink diet coke! Have just thrown it all up so back on the cooled boiled water.
Depends..........what kind of food poisoning:

It may come on up to 3 days after infection eg chicken and the symptoms are abdominal cramp, nausea but no vomiting and diarrhea which may be bloody.

Other common type e.g staph......may come on as quickly as 30 mins after ingestion with vomiting as the main symptom as compared to the above. Diarrhea and stomach cramps may follow.
maggiebee Sounds very much like Campylobacter food poisoning and the time frame is about right. son got it when he went camping and ate chicken drumsticks which had not been cooked sufficiently. he ended up in hospital as he had a high (40c) temperature with it.
Retrochic is "bang on the money."
It depends on the bug. You can get just diarrhea and/or vomiting. Sometimes I have had it where it comes on the next day, sometimes even as soon as 4 hours after eating. I have also collapsed from food poisoning (my "mate" left me collapsed on a pavement in Venezuela while she went off to get more t shirts from the market, the cow). Sometimes it is caused by the food but a lot of the time it`s actually dirty food handling that causes it. Take some rehydration salts if you can get them.

Thanks Retrochic - have just looked up Campylobacter food poisoning and it's a perfect match to what I have.
I am not an expert, but hope you feel better soon.
maggiebee I hope you get well soon
I have Menieres too and your symptoms look like it Maggie.
Maggie, if you have some coke, not diet, either let it go flat or put a little sugar in it. Take small sips, my health visitor told me years ago, when the kids were ill with a really bad bug, it helps to replace salt.
Hope you feel better soon.
Hi Maggie
Know it's a bit late but I am just recovering from Campylobacter food poisoning - lasted almost 3 weeks. Severe stomach cramps, nausea but no vomiting, diarrhoea (3,4,5 times a day), and feeling very tired. Ended up in A & E where they drip fed me 3 litres of fluid (severe dehydration, close to kidney failure) and Buscopan (for the cramps) intravenously. Didn't help that I am also recovering from a Total Knee Replacement and our only loo is upstairs ! Lost almost a stone in weight in the first 10 days. Have never felt so bad. Just glad I'm on the mend. Not sure if this will help but good luck anyway.
