I tried hypnotherapy for quitting smoking. I used to smoke but only when I had a glass of wine in my hand and I wanted to break the association. It didn`t work although I had heard the hypnotherapist was very good. I just wasn`t a good subject for hynotherapy - it doesn`t work for everyone. I`m not sure that hypnotherapy would make you more positive but NLP (neuro linquistic programming) is supposed to help mental attitudes although I don`t know much about it. If you are depressed the GP might be the place to start rather than a hypnotherapist.

Given what you have on your plate you are presumably seeing your GP at fairly regular intervals.

I would raise the issue with them in the first instance.
No
I had a stammer as a child and into adulthood. I went to see a hypnotherapist as recommended by my GP. My stammer was cured. My experience was VERY positive. I don't know though if it would help for depression. Ask your GP for his/her advice. Best of luck with it all. xx
A friend of mine wanted to quit smoking she tried everything, patches, cold turkey, chewing gum, gradual reduction, nothing worked for her. She had hypnotherapy and hasn't smoked since. She was very sceptical when she first went & even now can not explain how she quit. But it worked for her maybe not everyone.
A friend of mine tried everything to give up smoking. Only hypnotherapy treatment worked for him.

i am very very sceptical , once had stage hypno , out of around 10 people i was the only one who did not get hypnotised.

keep your views coming thanks as i want to make a decision based on peoples experiences instead of throwing 100,s away.
I have not had hypnotherapy so cannot comment about that. I have lived with depression for many years on and off. I have had CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) via my GP. It has helped me enormously.

my GP is a dead loss !!!
Your GP has your records and will be a better place to start.

It is easy to give the answers you think are required to an alternative therapist who is not in possession of the full facts.

You have many issues going on and I find it difficult to believe that hypnotherapy would help you at this time.
dd I agree with Eccles.
Go and see a different doctor as you're not happy with the one you have. You need a good one that you can talk to, especially in your condition. I'm the same as you, can't be hypnotised.

ok
question is about hypno.....not GP thnks
Ok I'll bow out. But please remember people have your best interests at heart. Bye and good luck, I hope you get what works for you.
I have had hypnotherapy for depression dieseldick. It cost me £70 for an hour.

I wasn't very impressed with the lady who did it, so never went back. I did feel very relaxed when I came out and glad my friend drove me home as I felt quite out of it so much so I was dribbling.

thanks, keep them coming , great to hear other peoples views
Depression is a medical condition. It needs medical treatment. Do you drink alcohol frequently? What's your diet like? Do you exercise?
My husband was referred to a hypnotherapist by his Australian GP to stop smoking in 1968. He had two sessions and has never smoked since.

Smoked 30 cigs a day, try all the other methods to stop without success. One hypnotherapy session costing £80 and bingo I stopped smoking. My personal opinion is that hypnotherapy is a support tool but you must have the desire to stop smoking.
