Ok, hypothetical lI know!

I wonder how the religious would cope. I dont think most of the religious could cope, they have mostly known no difference and I think they would live a life of denial. It would leave a vast empty hole that could never be filled.


I find the concept interesting, I know a few people that, if you took away their faith they would most likely fall apart.

True. For so many people their religion IS their life, their whole being. Everything they say and do revolves around their religion. They don't appear to have minds of their own and only quote passages from their various holy books. Sad. Like you, I know some VERY religious people and without their brand of religion, they would have no reason to exist.

If people learned that God didn't exist they might not change much. If you lived a life where you tried to do no harm to others, and maybe even a bit of good, there mightn't be much to change.
This is just an answer to a hypothetical question as we, the enlightened, know that He does exist.

I was thinking more along the emotional lines, when suddenly their whole belief system that they have had for their whole life is just gone!

i don't think anything will change , even if you prove it beyond all doubt, people who already believe in the unbelievable so will simply choose not believe you, because their beliefs trump your proofs

I went shopping in my local High St around 10:30-11:00 yesterday morning (Sunday).

We have a church one end of the High St and bells were ringing.

As I stood near the church I saw a number of "well dressed" people going in to the church (mostly middle aged/old aged) and I thought to myself it is more of a "social" thing than a "religious" thing.

Probably for many people it is a chance to get out the house, meet up with other people in the church, sing a few hymns, and just "feel good" about life and yourself.

I am not sure most of them care if there is a god or not (I don't capitalize the g in god as I don't believe there is one)

I think Muslims would struggle much more as it dictates most of their lives! for a start they would have to do a lot more work instead of all that praying.

It would be understandable (were it a possible scenario). Having to go from "knowing" there was point to everything existing, to a realisation that they (and everything else) were pointless, only endured here for a short while then left whilst another bunch of beings endured the same. Knowing all ethics and stuff was equally meaningless save to amuse themselves and make them feel better for the duration. Would be a bit of a downer.

They wouldn't believe it. Over the years, through these pages, many aspects of religion have been scrutinised and demonstrated to be false, but that doesn't stop the people of religion ignoring the evidence.

Why do non-believers/atheists get so obsessed with people who do believe in their God? If it helps certain people to believe and lead a certain way of life, then what's the harm?

They're always pointing out that life has no meaning without god, so in theory, they'd have to either change their minds about that, or kill themselves.

People will always find some room for doubt if they want to believe the opposite; I expect even with such a proof religion would continue.

people who needed to believe in a God, rather than the concept of good and godly principles let's say,simply would not believe the 'proof'.

Maybe the religious would self move the threshold up from 'Beyond All Doubt' and thus keep the ball rolling!

We will always get somebody coming along and telling us we don't understand the bible.

What would change? nothing much apart from this world will become even more unsafe. Because the people who fear trial and retribution will no longer have the thought. Right or wrong and you may or may not agree but there are a good number of God fearing people around. People who do good things because they believe their religion tells them to.

I am Muslim and I pray as well as work. It has never stopped or disturbed my work.

And finally what about reversing your own question. What if it is proved that God does exist and so do heaven and hell. So what would you do then?

Keyplus, I think the world would be a far safer place, as I have pointed out on here before, the most religious countries on this earth are also the violent and war torn, where as the countries with most atheists are the most peaceful and free of war.

I can tell you if you worked with me and kept disappearing to pray you would not last 5 minutes!!

And if it was proved that there is/was a god then I would just accept it wouldn't I, I really don't think that story will ever come true either lol.
