I have used Germolene ointment for over 50 years to good effect but have noticed that it now seems to be unavailable.

Can anyone advise me whether they know of a supplier who is still able to supply this product so that I can obtain some stock before it disappears altogether.

Any help would be appreciated

Plenty of Germolene antiseptic cream on Amazon - now in tubes but used to be in tubs. Is this the same stuff?
It seems to be available on Boots website, I don't know if they have it in store

its still available on boots website.
and sainsburys :)
There is plenty of Germolene cream available but NOT the pink Germolene ointment. This seems to be totally out of stock everywhere.
I think 'ointment' has gone out of fashion and more easily-absorbed creams are produced instead. So it's still around, but not in a tub.
The tubs that you scooped up ointment from also pose cross-contamination issues, which is why these medicines are made in tubes nowadays.
I never liked the stuff myself, the sticky nature of if just attracts the dirt to stick to it, not good. Most small wounds just need to keep clean and dry, a small dressing if really needed. Clean fresh air is the best healer.
Do you remember when medicines and ointments had to be sticky, stinky and stingy to be considered effective? Ah the 1950s. A simpler world.
if you've used it for 50 years, and the problem still isn't sorted, how ca you say you have used it to goo effect?
Savlon Antiseptic Cream is very good!
I bought some a few months back at B&M.
but it was pink cream not ointment... what's the difference?
I buy Germolene in tubes, it doesn't smell the same as it used to when I was a kid though :(
Can you still get those little bottles of purple iodine that used to be painted on cuts?
Yes, you can, Obiter, and Black Jack for drawing out splinters

A good question and is very important.

Antibacterial topical applications work better in a cream and are also better for "sweaty areas" e.g armpits. That is why topical antibiotics are used in a cream not an ointment.

In exposed areas and with no antibacterial agents, ointments work better.
What does 'topical' mean in this context, Sqad?
Topical means applied to the surface of the skin.
