Every night in bed I get really bad leg cramps. I wonder do the cramps wake me up. They are very painful and the only way I have found to get rid of them is to stand on the cold bathroom floor. Then I'm wide awake. Is there anything I can do to stop them. I was told a magnet at the bottom of the bed but it doesn't work for me.

I was told it was a lack of salt in my diet.
Quinine ? Maybe you have a a salt deficiency ?

Stretching the affected muscle tends to help dispel it once it's started.

Or grin and bear it.
Crampex tablets can be helpful
Difficult one.

Salt deficiency.....naaah!....why would someone be slat deficient in this day and age?

Quinine? ....could give it a try, although GP's not keen on prescribing it because of possible heart problems.

Lack of exercise: I think that this is a possibility...are you taking enough exercise? Daily walk or perhaps daily swim?

Pop into you GP who may suggest blood tests for under active thyroid.

That's about it from me.

Can't see it being lack of salt, I plaster my food in it and Mic often told me off for it.

Stretching my legs make it worse.

I will buy some Crampex, and put more salt on my dinner.
\\\ put more salt on my dinner.\\\

Don't be an idiot.

Lack of exercise, If only. I am on the go from morning til night. I used to love to swim (was going to swim the channel once) but now I can't leave Mic for long enough to go to the nearest pool.
Are you on any medication?

That was supposed to be a joke Sqad.
LOL....sorry jeza......;-)

No prescribed meds, but I do take Ranitidine as necessary and Ibuprofen most days.
Try stretching your legs before you go to bed...it works for me.
When i got leg cramps I had a glass of tonic water before I went to bed & it sorted it.

So Tonic Water and leg stretches before bed. I'll give it a go, I'll give anything a go. Doesn't Tonic Water contain quinine?
I read somewhere that eating bananas help. Worth a try?
Is does contain quinine jeza
I always drink some tonic water. It contains quinine. It's worth a try Jeza. I haven't had leg cramps for years now, not since I started taking tonic water every day/night. Good luck xx
A large Gordon's with the tonic water might make it bearable - repeat as necessary...
I was going to suggest a large glug of Voddie but Gin will work just as well for the soothing calming effect of anaesthesia.
Exercise ha ! I used to regularly get cramp in my calves every time I went swimming. As I didn't much like swimming I gave it up and got far fewer cramp episodes.
