HI there I am feeling run down at the moment high temperature feeling nauseated very tired etc and passing a lot of urine. Ive just done my blood sugar and I was horrified it is 12.9 not been like that in a long time. Ive not been eating any more carbs than normal and been taking my medications as usual 2 glipazide and 4 metformin a day. I am not overly concerned about 12.9 they have been a lot worse Ive had them in the 20s before. But any idea on how I can get my blood sugars down I dont feel up to exercise and is there a link between a virus and high blood sugar.

gordie........oh! gordie.........what ARE we going to do with you?

Yes, a virus or indeed ANY infection can significantly raise your bllod sugar levels.

What to do:

1)Stop worrying
2) Take Ibuprofen to reduce your temp.
3) Drink plenty of water.
4) Maintain your dose of diabetic tablets.
5) Try and maintain your diet.
6) 12.9 for a couple or so of days is no big deal.
7) Report back to AB on Wednesday next.
I'm type one but when I had Norovirus I had several off the scale readings which then swung violently the other way with lots of hypos as I ate something gave myself the right injection to match my carbs then couldn't stop being sick for about three days and some nasty old Ketones turned up too:(
I felt really horrific and was monitoring my blood sugar hourly because they were so erratic.
I finally got stabilised and could only suck ice cubes for a couple of days, but I do notice that the slightest virus or bug of any sort and my sugar levels go into orbit. As Sqad says just be sensible with it and eventually it'll level out (normally).
