I suffered from glandular fever just over a year ago! Over the last few weeks believed i had it again (swelling in neck and armpits and feeling generally run down as well as itching), but GP doesn't think it is!

Reading web site been worried about things like Hodkins disease, going for blood test can routine blood test show whether or not you have anything more serious than glandular fever?

You cannot get Glandular fever twice, so ask doctor.

Oh dear not another worrier, I'm already keeping an eye on Arsenal!

As far as I remember the initial blood tests may be looking for several possible diseases which relate to your symptoms. You'll probably notice that they put blood into a few different little phials (sp?).

I've known people who've had glandular fever & I don't think that a year is too long to still be suffering from the effects of it - it's something that can go on for a very long time.

This is becoming my catchphrase at the moment but please try not to worry!

Hi Robina, Like you said there is no point in worrying, its not going to help! Yep they didn't say what they were testing for but the blood was put into about three phials!

As you said to Arsenal I shouldn't have looked at the website I was only trying to read up on glandular fever! (Just seemed stange that GP said he did'nt think I had glandular fever!?)

Thanks for your help, I'll try not worry!

glandular fever can stay in your system for up to ten years.... its hard to get rid of... its very likely it has come up again x

Its very unlikely to be anything as serious as Hodkins disease - and often web-sites tend to over-generalise symptoms and cause people unnessary worry.. It is more likely that after having glandular fever those areas of your body are still sensitive to viral infection and its probably an upper tract infection - which can leave to feeling run down for a few weeks... Give yourself a few weeks of looking after yourself and eating well and see how you feel.. If you're still in doubt have another word with your GP. Worrying will only cause you stress and make your symptoms appear worse than they really are.

Hello Gazza2.  Just wanted to welcome you to the worry club!  I am going through the same thing at the moment as you know.  Robinia is very helpful!

I guess it is easy to assume things from reading websites etc, but generally if your body gets a virus the first things to 'fight it off' are you glands etc.  I know there are things like mumps, glandular fever and even hodgkins, but I guess there is also other viruses that attack your body, and if you are feeling low, you are more likely to get them.

As for glandular fever not returning, I don't think that is true.  I have heard that the virus can stay in your body, and sometimes it can surface again.  My mate at work had a really bad virus a couple of years ago, and that is what the doctor told him.  Anyway, get a blood test mate, because, like me, you will just be worried all the time and feeling ill anyway!  Good Luck.
