I have now been taking 20mg Lipitor for a few months, with no side effect that I know of (this was the 4th try of statins after having severe muscle reaction to the others) but for the past week or two I have felt as if I have a permanenetly blocked nose, almost allergic like. Has anyone else found this to be a side effect of Lipitor? or is it just a coincidence.

Yes one of the side effects is nasal congestion.
Luckily not had that side effect.

I can't believe that I am reacting to yet another one, having difficulty breathing during the night because it is almost completely blocked up. I have tried rubbing Vicks, Olbas Oil etc , so perhaps it may be another trip to the doctor.

One whiff of Vicks and I am choking to breathe, even if someone else in the room is using it and I don't know.

I agree with treetops, it MAY be a side effect of your statin.

My advice would be to monitor the situation over the next 2-3 weeks and if there is no improvement see your GP.
I'm on Lipitor 40 (and have been for a number of years) and occasionally get a blocked nose overnight but that soon disappears in the morning
I haven't been taking Lipitor but I've been on 20mg of Simvastatins for about 18 months. I've had no side effects, I exercise every day, I go to the gym, do Zumba and have just done a half marathon at the weekend. I know all about the possible side effects of statins but, fingers crossed and touch wood, they haven't YET happened to me. I wish you well jamesnan.

Thanks for all the answers, I will wait and see what happens over the next couple of weeks, my cholesterol reading has come down significantly so would prefer to stay taking statins if I can. What do our learned contributors think about me taking an antihistamine tablet for a few days to see if there is any difference.
Worth a try I suppose........try Claritin as the choice of your anti-histamine.
James. Could it just be hay fever ? Pure and simple..antihistamines and a becanase nasal spray...it's been bad the last wee while for hay fever..I'm doped up well and proper !
