Poor hydration (dehydration) can cause you to become agitated and tense. The reason why water coolers are available in the reception areas of large public areas as someone unable to get a drink is more likely to become difficult and even aggressive. Shock/fear and being worked up can dehydrate a person quickly as can too much heat or caffeine so anyone stressing as a result will feel better when well hydrated. The brain has a very high % water so ideally needs this maintained so operating at its best.

Thank you for that.....Can I further impose by asking if two pints of water a day is really enough?
physiologically dehydration causes LOW blood pressure (hypOtension) not high blood pressure (hypERtension)

to add: a normal diet and normal amounts of liquid intake under normal circumstances will prevent dehydration. The best way to monitor is to check the colour of your wee. What you see in the pan should be pale yellow and not smelly. Exceptions are if you have eaten beetroot (tints it pink) or asparagus, (makes it yellower and smelly) or berocca (makes if bright bright yellow.)
sorry but brandyrose is right about agitation raising blood pressure and heat dehydrating but this is not likely to cause continual hypertension. Heat dehydration causes hypOtension.

I hope this helps re - water intake.
Woofgang's suggestion to keep an eye on the colour of your urine - I agree with. If you aren't weeing very much then your intake of fluids is likely to be far too low and esespecially if urine is very low volume and concentrated when you do go.
I dont think you can be too rigid though as alot of things can affect how much you might need (medication, salt intake, exercise etc etc - ) Some people find that if they drink a few large glasses of water the minute they get up in the morning it replaces what they have lost during the night and they are better set for the day than if they dont do this - they really notice the difference. They also sip throughout the day and stay very hydrated. Some friends I have who drink have to drink lots of water before they go to bed or they find nothing goes right the next day! and they wake up feeling awful - water sorts this but if they wait until the morning they are stressed with headaches etc etc. and it doesn't work. Alcohol affects people differently.. But not everyone is like this. The best approach in my view is to learn to trust your own judgement and listen to what your body is telling you.
The more fluid and free your blood is moving around the body the less struggle and stress on your heart.
I take the young lad in my avatar to the vet every month or so. His nose is pink when we leave the house. By the time he is being examined by the vet it is bright red. It is, says the vet, caused by a rise in his blood pressure as he gets stressed out. No that this fact will be much help to you Matheous
