Why stretch when tired?

Probably to awaken the muscles, as dogs do it too, but why does it feel so GOOD to stretch when you are tired? It is absolutely wonderful.

My dear old Mum always used to say "I could stretch a mile if it wasn't for coming back" I know what she means now.
