Reporting back..... I had it done on Monday, not very nice but I survived. Then I'll go to see the heamotologist again for the results on the 5th December. I'm still a little puzzled as to what it is.

Thanks both. x
Try not to worry too much horseshoes. Most of the causes of high platelets are easily treated, and should not affect your life too much.
Good luck.
It is good that they are looking into it but I wouldn't be too worried at this stage. Wishing you well for your results on 5 December. x
Sorry to ask this. How bad was it?

My nan needs it but they (the doctors) said they'd rather not do it because of her dementia.

I hope all works out well for you HS xx
Thanks for the feedback...........Dec 5th will give you all the answers.

Sqad - I'll be back!

Ummmm - not very nice. I couldn't say it didn't hurt 'cos it did, especially the 2nd part where they took the "core" sample, but it wasn't for very long. I would guess that the worst part for your Nan would be keeping her still when it hurt, but I'm sure the hospital would take steps to assist with that. x
Good news that you have had the BM biopsy Horseshoes. Never the most pleasant of experiences for sure. Good luck for the 5th December.

Thanks Lazygun. I even asked to see the samples while I was sitting up having a cup of tea! 5 glass plates with smeared liquid marrow and a bottle with a "plug" of the solid marrow. Then I had a look at the different needles she used to extract the marrow. The 2nd lot looked as though it belonged in a plumber's toolbox! All very interesting!
Well done horseshoes...all the best, hope it's good news for you.

Thanks Robinia. x
You are right about the instruments used horseshoes - they do look more suited to plumbing than surgery :)

Still remember the first sternal bone marrow aspiration I participated in. Seemed more like GBH than a medical intervention :)
It is good that that is over. I wish you well on the 5th.

Thanks Marval. x

Lol Lazygun. Oh yes and I forgot to mention, I was asked if I minded 2 medical students coming in to watch. So there was me, OH, the nurse doing the procedure, the nurse who was there to hold my hand (she didn't know OH was going to be there) and the 2 medical students. Quite a party! There was a couple of painters further down the corridor; I did think of inviting them in!
:-(

I really hope you get the results you want x
