Self defence classes

Anyone done any self defence classes? If so, what should I be looking for - the only thing that comes up when I google my area is Krav Maga (no idea what that is or if it's any good). Thanks.

Krav Maga (Hebrew for "hand-to-hand combat") was developed by a Hungarian Jew in the 1930s and is used by Israeli Defence Forces, both regular and special forces, and variations have been developed and adopted by law enforcement, intelligence organizations such as Mossad, and for civilian use.

sherrardk, many years ago I was given instruction by a friend who had military training cos I was living in a country which was quite volatile - the confidence and skill it gave me proved invaluable on more than one occasion! - my suggestion is that you try and google things like 'self defence for women' as we need to learn techniques rather than strength manoeuvres.
