Oh dear ! oh dear...........medicine at it's very best and the monitor doesn't work.
If it were me, i would go back on Ramipril 20 mgms daily, not take the amlodipine and ask to be referred to a Consultant Physician at the hospital.
That is of course, if it were me.

tez - I agree with Sqad - a few years ago my poor Mum was on Ramipril and was also given Amlodipine as her pressure was high - it knocked her for six and my Dad found her collapsed in the bedroom.
I think some GP's think they work in a sweet shop dishing out M & Ms not powerful drugs. {:o(

scary tho isnt it as some ppl prob just do as a doctor says i dont want to be a zombie lol
|

I'm certainly not a zombie tez, I have been on combined dose of Ramipril and Amlodipine for 3 years now and they suit me well and my blood pressure is spot on at each 6 monthly check. If you read the side effects on each medication you could be scared to death, they list every possible illness/side effect going ......... just in case! What side effects are you meaning from Amlodipine?
|
|
Interesting - I have to take 2.5 mg Bendroflumethiazide, 5mg Amlodipine and 5mg Ramipril every day, don't seem to have any side effects, but would not know for sure. My BP seems to be ok now.

ann 86 i asked the same question on google came across some answers from others who were apparently taking it all saying it left them feeling like a zombie no energy couldnt sleep weight gain swollen ankles hot flushes all said stay well clear scared me to death my sister recently was prescribed this drug within 2 weeks of taking it she couldnt walk due to swollen ankles excess fluid retention headaches etc just dont like what im reading about it , but my thing is i wanted to have the 24hr monitor to prove my pressure was not as high in every day life as it was in doctors surgery but because monitors were not working properly i was just given more tablets to take when i wanted to actually cut down my dose of ramipril hopefully

I do get swollen ankles tez but only on long journeys, they soon go down and back to normal again. I did wonder if it was the Amlodipine. I can live with those few side effects though as its keeping my BP perfect. Why don't you try them for a week or two, your doctor can monitor the situation and you and your GP can then decide what is best for you.

Buy yourself a home blood pressure monitor...boots do a number of them, they're reasonably priced...and take your own blood pressure at home. Keep a note of the readings and next time you see a doctor you can show them your results. Easy peasy :)

|
tez - another way to keep a check, is to buy yourself a blood pressure monitor to use at home. They are not that expensive and you can list all your readings in a book and take them along at your appointments. White coat syndrome is very common. I had this many years ago and was put on BP tablets, which brought it down so low, I kept feeling faint.
I check mine on my monitor and its fine.

I took amlodipine and perindopril, but I was coughing for a couple of months after a cold earlier this year, and my doctor said that might be a side-effect of the amlodipine, so took me off it.
Now I'm getting swollen ankles. Didin't have them before.

I get a very definite 'white coat' syndrome when I visit either the diabetic clinic or the renal clinic at the hospital and bought myself a blood pressure meter and photograph my reading every day, and show that to the doctors. I've been on Ramipril 10mg and Indapamide 2.5mg for some time now and it suits me very well.

|
I've taken Amlodipine and Ramapril for 6-7 years with no side effects at all.
I take it in the morning as instructed.
Seems what suits one doesn't suit another.
